Race

The 2008 edition of the Estoril Portugal XPD Race will qualify the winning three teams for the World Championships which will also take place in Portugal (ARWC 2009).

The magnificent Estoril Coast will once more welcome the best international adventure racing teams, allowing them to explore the vast potentialities of the municipalities of Cascais and Sintra and its magnificent Natural Park. It will be an opportunity to see the best national teams competing at the highest level in Adventure Racing, demonstrating their skills and their knowledge and experience of national territory.

Estoril Portugal XPD Race aims to showcase the potential of Portugal as a prime location for Adventure Racing and the skills of the Portuguese for organizing large international sporting events.

The 2008 edition of the XPD race will be organised as follows:

Dates: 30th November to 4th December 2008
Total estimated distance: 500 – 600 km
Length/Format: 5 days (approximately 90 hours to complete the race)/Non-Stop
Type of race: Mixed ARWS Competition (for mixed teams, with at least one female element) and APCA Trophy (for all-male teams)
Support: Provided by the organisation* in the format described above
*(only for teams who sign up to the support package)

A. Mixed competition – AR World Series

• Teams of 4 members
• Compulsory at least one female member
• Non-Stop format
• All elements always competing
• With Prize-money
• Qualification for the AR World Championship Portugal XPD Race 2009

B. Male competition – APCA Trophy

• Team of 4 members
• All members are male
• Non-Stop format
• Type of participation to be defined
• No prize money
