Ready for adventure ???? 2008-03-18 22:44
Estoril Portugal XPD 2008 will be very difficult and challenging. We have designed a course that explores the amazing SOUTHWEST COAST of EUROPE and its magnificent cliffs, beaches and sand dunes, which look rather like the shores of the north african desert.
Believe it or not, it will be a full non-stop 600 km course, designed to be completed only by the first teams in around 90 hours (96 is the time limit for everybody). We are still working on the course layout but we plan to have up to 12 different sports involved. The traditional ones for sure and new ones, like surfing and / or kayak surfing. We are also working on a special event with Old Western flavour…..
The technical skills needed for the race range from moderate to high in the different sports, however this year a good technical level will pay in the final result. Again this year, the athletes’ will have excellent cartography (several maps will be presented at 1:15000 and 1:20000 Orienteering ISSOM scales). Nevertheless, this will raise the degree of complexity of navigation through the very tricky and difficult Mediterranean type forest.
The race human environment will be excelled by the presence of a mandatory support team and by the quality of the different Transition and Assistance Arenas along the course. The spectator points and the flash interview areas will give the race better coverage both for everybody on location and for those following the race in cyberspace.
To help the teams increase their notoriety and in finding sponsorship we are working on several resources that will be available from the XPD website. The first package is the Hi Def photos from last year\'s race (around 2000 photos , +/- 10Go). The first 500 will be available for download from next Thursday, 19th March.
That\'s all for now folks, please don’t forget to register in the next few days to be eligible for the lottery of a place in the 2009 ARWC in Portugal.
All the best from Estoril XPD Team
